What You Will Do:
Respiratory Therapists are expected to have a fundamental, working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease processes, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutic modalities.
This includes, but is obviously not limited to:
Arterial Blood Gas (ABG), EKG, oximetry, capnography, and chest x-ray analysis and interpretation and their relevance to the patient's care.
Medical gas cylinders and regulators.
Oxygen delivery devices.
Mechanical ventilators (relative to all age groups of patients) Therapeutic pulmonary modalities Pulmonary Diagnostics While performing job functions related to respiratory medication administration, personnel may access medication storage areas.
In order to be eligible to be promoted into this position an employee cannot have had a disciplinary action documented on a Corrective Action Form within the previous 6 months.
Verbal/Written warnings are not included in this process.
Certification & LicensuresRespiratory Care Practitioner License in Virginia requiredBLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required Registered Respiratory TherapistMaintains current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or Rhythm & Med.
New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
Qualifications Certified and competent to perform all prescribed duties as outlined in the Job Description to all patients ages infant to adult.
Meets and Completes VH Preceptor Requirements.
Must maintain Annual Respiratory Services Competency testing scores in accordance with department standards.

Monthly Staff Meetings are a primary channel for Communication within the Respiratory Services department.
In order for an employee to receive a 'Meets Standards' as an overall score on their annual performance review the employee must have attended a minimal of 80% of the regularly scheduled staff meetings.
Maintenance:
To maintain the level, the candidate will meet each performance standard on the annual performance appraisal at a '3' ('fully meets expectations') or above.
In the event that the RCP is not meeting the requirements of the performance appraisal as stated, the direct report official will work with the employee to develop an action plan designed to support and maintain their level.
If the employee is unable to meet expectations at this level of practice after completing the action plan, the employee will be terminated from employment.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
