What You Will Do:
The Vice President is a member of the critical access hospital executive team who not only manages a portion of the organization, but also provides a key role in relating hospital functions, Patient Safety, Quality of Care improvement, Physician engagement, documentation accuracy and improvement and partner to identify and build consensus and implement efficiencies in clinical care.
VPMA also advises the President, SMH and PMH and is responsible for decisions and policies to the medical staffs as well as relating medical staff opinions, attitudes, preferences and needs to the hospital management and governing body.
Serves as the medical staff administrative liaison to the region's President.
The VPMA will manage and advance the clinical practice performance of the medical staff.
The Vice President, Medical Affairs serves as a resource to the medical staff in credentialing, reappointment, peer review and quality review, but does not usurp the responsibilities of the organized medical staff in this regard.
Additionally, the VPMA assists in development and promotes acceptance of service standards for the medical staff and the entire organization, works with medical staff to ensure that the established service standards are met or exceeded, monitors patient/customer satisfaction and uses data to improve systems, processes and outcomes and helps to investigate and resolve major patient complaints or problems associated with the medical staff.
Serves as the Virginia CAH region liaison with the Performance Improvement Department on matters related to the Quality Improvement Organization and other third party payers on matters relating to physician performance.
Collaborates with the critical access VPs and nursing leaders to drive inter-professional patient care.
Participates in the establishment, review and revisions of policies, procedures and standards of care related to patient care procedures and outcomes as necessary.
The Vice President of Medical Affairs reports directly into the system chief physician executive team at Valley Health and will may system responsibilities.
This position provides key roles in relation to system functions such as system quality improvement and high reliability, care standardization and variation management, physician leadership development, physician support for care coordination and utilization management, and physician recruitment and alignments.
The position will report directly to the Chief Physician Executive with a strong matrix reporting relationship to the Senior Vice President, Critical Access Hospital and President PMH/SMH for regional responsibilities.
Interfaces with the medical staff to optimize communications to and from the hospital administration, management team and Board of Trustees.
This duty includes:
Attends medical staff meetings including all Medical Staff Executive Committee, Full Medical Staff and Credentialing meetings; section meetings as necessary; as well as quality assurance meetings.
Communicates with the medical staff officers and leaders and medical staff advisors to help resolve problems and to help organize input and direction for the quality review and improvement process.
Serves as a resource to the President of the medical staff and medical staff committee chairs in organizing and presenting quality assurance and peer review materials.
Serves as ex-officio member of all medical staff committees and departments with specific emphasis on Credentialing and Medical Staff Executive Committees.
Attends administrative meetings as needed, including hospital board meetings, VHS QMAC, Administrative and Management Team meetings, and Performance Improvement Council.
Prepares, with the help of the other members of the executive team, a monthly quality and safety report to the Board of Trustees.
This report is intended to be a document prepared by health professionals, which monitors and reports the current status and trends, patient safety, and customer satisfaction.
Provides professional guidance to the activities of the Medical Records Department.
Provides a physician's viewpoint and brings a physician's knowledge and training to the executive team in order to help the management team and board.
Performs other duties as assigned by the President, SMH/PMH including but not limited to preparing reports and performing studies as needed.
Takes a leadership role in integrating the areas of responsibility under his direction into the primary functions of the organization to ensure safe and quality patient care.
Oversees and monitors the organization's performance improvement efforts and supports quality improvement teams.
Provides direction, sets parameters, and assesses quality control programs and performance indicators.
Ensures that all physicians are provided relevant orientation, training and continuing education.
Identifies and selects sources for the provision of needed services not provided by the organization.
Approves organizational policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal laws as well as regulations applicable to the organization.
Take administrative call coverage in rotation with hospital leaders Serves as a positive role model in community, customer and employee relations, representing the organization's highest standards in all interactions.
What You Will Bring:
Education Masters Business or Healthcare Administration, Medical Management or Certified Physician Executive (CPE) preferred Graduate from accredited LCME Medical School required Experience 5 years in Practice of medicine in the US in private or small group practice preferred Certification & Licensures VA License to Practice Medicine required AMA or AOA Board Certification In recognized specialty required Qualifications Membership in the American College of Physician Executives or American College of Healthcare Executives preferred Must have demonstrated skill and interest in management concepts and their application to hospitals Must have demonstrated skill in written and oral communication to medical and lay groups Quality Assurance background preferred Innovation and vision in contemporary Performance Improvement preferred What You Will Get:
